Former Advance Auto Parts Store Support Center – Roanoke, Virginia

Photo description:

This small section is the only part of the mall that was not redeveloped for Advance Auto Parts. Inside it is a very small resemblance of how the rest of Crossroads Mall used to look. There is a very short video on YouTube of this section of the mall from a couple of years ago that reinforces that this section of the mall was probably minimally touched (if you look closely in the video, you can see the original escalators).

This is the former Advance Auto Parts Store Support Center/Headquarters at 5008 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, VA.

This property opened as Crossroads Mall in 1961 as the first enclosed and air conditioned shopping center in Virginia.

In 2009/2010, the mall was converted mostly to the Advance Auto Parts Support Center. In November 2018, Advance Auto Parts moved their headquarters to Raleigh, NC but kept this facility open for certain operations (and they even renewed their lease in 2019). Information on when this facility completely closed is hard to find, but from what I read, AAP sent their employees to work remotely in 2020 for COVID, and in August, reduced their staffing, which probably means it temporarily closed for the pandemic for its last time.

According to JLL, most of this property is available for lease. The only section that isn’t is a small section in the center of the building that is leased to a dentist (the dentist has operated out of the building likely since the conversion).
